Engineering company Monadelphous Group Limited has been awarded a major construction contract with BHP associated with the Port Debottlenecking Project 2 (PDP2), at BHP’s Nelson Point Port Facility in Port Hedland, Western Australia.
The contract, valued at around A$200 million ($141 million), is for the installation and commissioning of all structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation activities associated with the construction of the new Car Dumper 6 (CD6) and its supporting materials handling facilities.
Work will commence immediately and is expected to be completed in 2028.
Monadelphous Managing Director, Zoran Bebic, said the contract award reflects the company’s strong customer value proposition, built on long-term customer relationships and a proven track record of delivery.
At the tail end of 2025, Fluor’s Mining & Metals business was awarded an execution contract to perform engineering, procurement and construction management for PDP2, which included the installation of a sixth car dumper and additional conveyors and supporting infrastructure. This was predicated on enabling BHP to maintain its 305 Mt/y medium-term iron ore production guidance. Once operational, CD6 will significantly boost car dumper capacity, allowing the port to run with at least five car dumpers more than 90% of the time.
