    EACON begins autonomous night shifts at Havana pit in Australia

    Last week, EACON’s autonomous haulage project at the Havana Pit in Western Australia, delivered in collaboration with Thiess and Zijin Mining Group-owned Norton Gold Fields Pty Ltd, completed its first autonomous night shift. It follows the achievement of day shift autonomous operations in June of this year. The fleet consists of six Komatsu HD1500 rigid mining trucks retrofitted with EACON’s ORCASTRA® autonomous haulage technology system.

    EACON stated: “Moving from day-shift to around-the-clock autonomous operations is more than an extension of operating hours. It demonstrates the steady progress of autonomous haulage from a staged deployment towards becoming an increasingly integrated part of everyday mining operations, supporting more consistent and continuous production.”

    The significance of this project EACON says goes beyond simply achieving the goal of having a vehicle in operation. “It is also a validation of the safety, reliability, and global deployment capabilities of EACON’s autonomous driving system, as it takes place in an Australian mining environment with stringent safety standards and a well-established operational system.”

    Behind this is the over 100 million kilometres of safe operation experience accumulated by EACON in the regular operation of more than 40 mines and over 3,100 unmanned mining vehicles worldwide, mainly in China, as well as the ability to adapt vehicles to various mining types, operating conditions, and vehicle models, ensuring stable operation and rapid delivery.

    At the same time, it says the project has validated a practical approach to advancing unmanned upgrades based on existing mining equipment: it is possible to improve equipment utilisation efficiency and transportation organisation capabilities without needing to overhaul the existing production system.

    EACON: “As unmanned transportation enters real operational scenarios, autonomous driving is transforming not just the relationship between people and vehicles, but also the collaborative methods employed in mining sites. The reduction in high-frequency radio communications, the increased clarity of transportation processes, the greater predictability of work rhythms, and the further improvement in equipment scheduling efficiency are all genuine feedback from operations personnel in Australian mines.”

    For Australia’s mining industry, which places a high emphasis on safety and has a well-established operational framework, EACON says unmanned transportation is transitioning from technical validation to more advanced applications. “In the future, EACON will use the Australian project as a pivot point to further deepen its overseas localisation operations and delivery system construction. We will translate the technical capabilities developed through large-scale validation into replicable global mining practices, work with global mining partners, and help bring autonomous driving from a leading solution to industry consensus, thus collectively advancing to a new phase of safe, efficient, and sustainable intelligent mining.”
