This week, Fortescue suspended an unnamed senior executive who is currently under investigation over allegations of sexual harassment and bullying. The report first came to light in July, when an unnamed female employee made the complaint. In response, Fortescue hired law firm MinterEllison to investigate and conduct an external investigation.
At first, Fortescue confirmed that the unnamed senior executive continued working during the investigation, but as of an August 25 update, the senior executive is officially suspended.
“As the investigation has progressed, Fortescue has continued to take external legal and governance advice. It has been decided that the employee who is the subject of the allegations will not undertake any work for Fortescue while the investigation continues. The investigation is ongoing, and no findings have been made. Sexual harassment, unlawful discrimination and any behavior that makes people feel unsafe have no place at Fortescue,” a spokesperson told ABC News.
This isn’t the miner’s first run-in with sexual harassment and bullying allegations. In July of this year, Fortescue was served with a class action lawsuit filed in the Federal Court of Australia regarding allegations relating to workplace sexual harassment and sex discrimination against female workers between February 1, 2006, and December 5, 2025.
The current investigation is still ongoing.
