In fact, working more than 12 hours a day has been associated with a 37% increase in injuries and working more than 60 hours per week has been found to be related to a 23% increase in injuries. To ensure that workers are prepared and able to complete their jobs safely, mining operations are tasked with considering “fitness for duty” among their workforce. “Fitness for duty” or “fitness for work” deals broadly with the relationship between the individual worker and their ability to complete their job tasks safely and competently.

This presentation will cover various individual factors that contribute to fitness for duty, including fatigue, alcohol and/or drug use, medical fitness, and mental health and wellbeing.
